AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO DOSAGE FORM MODIFICATION OF CLASSICALLY PREPARED VISHATINDUKA TAILA INTO TRANSDERMAL PATCH

Abstract
Taila is one among the chaturvida sneha mentioned in classical text.[1]
Taila kalpana is one such preparation both water and lipid soluble
active principles are extracted at time. Among this Vishatinduka
taila[2] is one such polyherbal preparation mentioned in the Bhaishajya
ratnavali Vataraktadhikara. Having ingredients like Kupilu, Dattura,
Snuhi, Chitraka, Ashwagandha, Nirgundi etc. All are having properties
like Usna veerya, Laghu, Ruksha guna, Katu vipaka, which are
suppose to be Vatakaphahara. Specially indicated in Sakala
vatavyadhi, Vatarakta, all types of kusta etc. The confluence of
classical formulation with modern technologies provides the
foundation for the pharmaceutical future. New and improved dosage forms have been created
with the best interests in public health care. Transdermal patch is a medicated adhesive patch
that placed on the skin to deliver a specific dose of medication into bloodstream.[3] Topical
drug delivery can be defined as the application of a drug containing formulation to the skin
directly to treat the cutaneous disorders.[4] Aim of this study to prepare the Vishatinduka taila
as per the classical reference and its modified form of transdermal patch. There is immense
need to adopt these recent trends in respect to the dosage form in Ayurveda for adaptation on
Global scenario. These changes are essential due to evolution in human life style adopted by
the masses in the present era. In this study attempt is made dosage modification from
classically prepared vishatinduka taila into transdermal patch.
