“EVALUATION OF RUKSHA VIRECHANA AND SNIGADHA VIRECHANA IN AMAVATA (RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS)”

Abstract
In today’s era, people are more adhered to unhealthy food habits and
sedentary lifestyle which has lead to various diseases. Amavata is one
of these major disease in which there is vitiation of Vata Dosha and
accumulation of Ama in the joints. This can be corelated with
Rheumatoid arthritis in modern science. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a
systemic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammatory
polyarthritis, which affects peripheral joints, especially the small joints
of the hands and feet. It affects approximately 0.8% of world
population,[1] with women developing the condition three times more
than men.[2] Usually this disease is found in the 3rd to 5th decade of life
but due to unhealthy living style people of any age group can be
affected these days. Virechana is one of the unique treatment procedures mentioned in
Ayurveda and gives beneficial effects in patients of Amavata. It has been described to be the
best remedy for Pitta Dosha,[3] yet it is effective in the vitiated Kapha and Vata Dosha as
well.[4] Here, we have reviewed and compared the effect of Ruksha Virechana with Avipathi
Churna and Snigadha Virechana with Aragvadha Avleh in patients of Amavata. The drugs
used in the treatment for Deepan & Pachana with Panchakola Churna 3 gms BD before food
with luke warm water, Arohana Snehapana with Shunthi Ghrita, Sarvanga Abhyanga with
Brihat Saindhavadi Taila, followed by Sarvanga Swedana was advised. After the completion
of course of treatment Samsarjan Karma.
