Abstract

Basti treatment is considered as the half of all the other Panchakarma therapies. As per the need it can be given even to children as well as old individuals. The aim of Ayurveda is to maintain the health of a healthy individual as well as to cure the disease of the patients. Basti Chikitsa helps in achieving this goal by acting both as preventive as well as curative therapy. Acharya Charaka, Acharya Vagbhata & Acharya Sushruta, all have mentioned different kinds of Basti in their texts. Basically Basti is of two types – Niruha & Sneha. Basti is also considered as the main line of treatment for Vaataja conditions.
