Abstract
The life style of the people of modern era has changed due to rapid
urbanization. Due to changed work expectations for better life style,
stress is causing increased incidence of acute and chronic disorders.
Migraine is one of the chronic illness. It is a chronic neurological
disorder characterized by recurrent moderate to severe headaches. In
Ayurvedic classics there are several types of Shiro Roga (head
disorders) described by Acharyas, in which there is severe pain in half
of the Shira and its appendages i.e. Manya, Bhru, Shanka, Karna,
Akshi and Lalaata. The episodes of Ardhavabhedaka may occur
sudden, once in ten days or once in fifteen days. Acharyas states that
severe Ardhavabedhaka could lead to deafness and blindness.
Amongst them the clinical features of Ardhavabhedaka are very much
similar to Migraine. As in case of migraine mainly analgesics are
prescribed which have side effects on the other organs. So in this article an Ayurvedic
approach towards this illness is discussed.
Keywords: Shiro Roga, Ayurvedic management, Ardhavbhedaka, Migraine.
