EVALUATION OF ANUVASANA BASTI AND AROHAN ANUVASANA BASTI IN JANU SANDHIGATA VATA (KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS)

Abstract
Sandhigata Vata is the commonest form of articular disorder, it is type
of Vata Vaydhi which is mainly occurs in Vriddavastha due to
Dhatukshaya. Vata being the prime force responsible for the
movement, it dominant in the later half life, the disease Janu
Sandhigata Vata will manifest due to Dhatu Kshya, Prakupita Vata
will dry up the Sandhisthita Shleskaka Kapha resulting in Sandhishool
(joint pain), Ankunchan PrasarnayoShoola, Shotha, Graham, Sandhi
Atopa, and Sandhi Shaithilya. Sandhigata Vata can be correlated with
Osteoarthritis in modern medical science because it also produces the
features such as pain, inflammation, stiffness, limited movements and
deformity in serve cases. Janu Sandhigata Vata can be compared with
knee Osteoarthritis of contemporary medical science. Basti Karma having multidimentional
action is the best suited Panchkarma to overcome the morbid Vata Doshas, known as „Ardha
Chikitsa.’ As Pakwashaya is said to be the main seat of Vata Dosha. Anuvasana Basti is the
simple and easiest method of administration of Sneha which expels the vitiated Doshas as
well as it nourishes the body by swift action and high efficacy. Hence present open labelled
clinical study randomly total 40 patients having symptoms of Janu Sandhiagata Vata were
selected, they were divided into two groups, group A received Anuvassana Basti of Ksirbala Taila (144 ml) daily for 9 days and group B received Arohana Anuvasana Basti of Ksirbala Taila in increasing dose starting with (48ml, increasing 12 ml each day and 144 ml on 9th day). And hence to compare their effects in relieving signs and symptoms of the disease.
