PREPARATION OF MEDICINAL SOAP USING THE PETALS EXTRACT OF CALENDULA OFFICINALIS (MARIGOLD)

Abstract
A local herb known as marigold or its scientific name Calendula
officinalis has been used extensively in traditional treatment due to its
medicinal properties. Marigold since ages have been used to treat
irritated skin troubles like burns, wounds and rashes. Marigold
contains many potent anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds
that treat infections, decrease swelling, improve blood flow, reduce
muscle spasming, slow down effects of free radical damage/aging, etc.
These include flavanoids, polysaccharides, linoleic acid, carotenoids
and triterpenes. In this study, marigold petals extract was used in
producing herbal marigold soap as a remedy for curing skin problems.
The herbal marigold soap was made by blending aloe vera gel, gram
flour, turmeric and marigold aqueous extract in which marigold has been used to treat
inflammation, redness and dryness, aloe vera gel is a natural antiseptic which soothes any
kind of skin of inflammation, turmeric is a quite beneficial to those suffering from acne and
gram flour is used in the removal of dead skin cells which leads to skin rejuvenation. The
result imply that herbal marigold soap is suitable for human skin and can be a therapeutic
alternative to skin problems.
