Abstract

CLINICAL EVALUATION OF PATHYADI CHURNA ON AMLAPITTA; A CONTROLLED RANDOMISED PLACEBO STUDY

Abstract

Amlapitta is a Psycho-somatic disorder affecting the lifestyle of an individual, this condition is most commonly seen in day-to-day clinical practice and has gained a lot of importance in the present era due to the increasing incidence. It affects young and middle-aged people. It is caused due to improper food habits, life style, stress etc. Amlapitta being a Pitta pradhana vyadhi of Annavaha srotas is caused due to Mandagni, Ama and Annavaha srotodushti. There will be vikruti of Pachaka pitta (Pitta drava guna vriddhi) along with Kledaka kapha and Samana vayu. Condition presents with cardinal features like Avipaka, Klama, Utklesha, Tikta amlodgara, Gourava, Hrith kanat daha & Aruchi. The aim of present study was to determine the efficacy of Pathyadi churna in the management of Amlapitta compared with the Placebo. The study comprised with 60 subjects, randomly selected and grouped i.e Group A & Group B. These subjects were selected based on classical cardinal features; the subjects were from either sex aged between 16-60 years. Group A subjects received Pathyadi churna & Group B were treated with Placebo for a period of 30 days & follow up period for another 30 days. The results obtained were collected to a specially formatted case sheet (CRF). The collected data was subjected to appropriate statistical analysis & relevant conclusion was drawn based on statistical analysis. Based on the results obtained by the statistical analysis the conclusion derived was that-Pathyadi churna had better effect than Placebo, even though both the groups showed statistically significant results in reducing the symptoms.
