Abstract

Gold nanoparticles have anticancer properties and are cytotoxic to tumour cells. Swarna Bhasma is an incinerated gold ash prepared by repeated heating using specific procedures mentioned in the Rasashastra text. In recent era, potential alternative therapies are being searched and emphasis is given to the research in the filed of alternative cancer treatment. Nano particles uses novel drug delivery methods to treat cancer. Observing the toxic nature of nanoparticles there is need to find safer alternatives to metal nano particles. Method - Swarna Bhasma was cytotoxicity was calculated using MTT assay under different concentrations of Swarna Bhasma. Cell line used for study was MCF-7 Human Breast cancer cell line. Result - IC50 value of Swarna Bhasma was around 115.33ug/ml. Conclusion – Swarna Bhasma has potential cytotoxic potential against Breast cancer cell lines, further studies are required to confirm its apoptotic nature.
