A GLIMPSE OF SANSKARA IN CHILD AND ITS IMPORTANCE

Abstract
Kaumarbhritya is one of the prime branches in Ayurveda, Sanskara are
a religious customs (rite), ritual, sacrifices a religious ceremony.
Sanskara also build a wakefulness of the attainment of social status
and rights for the individual. The Sanskara are performed for the
physical, social, and religious development of the individual. The
number of Sanskara varies in different Hindu dharma Granthas but
applicable Sanskara are 16 in number. Out of this 16 Sanskara, only
11 Sanskara will fall under the childhood period. And 8 Sanskara are
important for growth and development. Ayurveda also describe
importance of Sanskara. This article will review eight Sanskara in
details for growth and development of children along with their medical relevance; Jatkarma
(birth rituals), Namkaran (naming the child), Nishakraman (first outing), Annaprashan (first
feeding), Chudakaran (Head shaving), Karnavedhan (Piercing the earlobes), Upanayana
(thread ceremony) And Vedarambha (start of formal education).
