AGADA PRAYOGA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF KEETA VISHA (INSECT BITE) – A CASE REPORT

Abstract
Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of medicine having eight
important branches. Agada tantra is among one of them which deals
with toxicological conditions and their management. Different
Acharya’s have explained regarding the concept and management of
Keeta visha in the classics. There are many types of Keeta Visha
described. Among animal poisoning, Acharya’s have described
different creatures like Sarpa, keeta, luta etc. which are responsible for
life threatening situations. The importance of Keeta Visha (insect bites)
is more because it causes acute as well as severe manifestations in the
human beings. Acharya Sushruta described Keeta Visha under
Jangama Visha and explained 67 varieties of Keeta under 4 groups.
According to its numerous variety’s, diagnosis and treatment of Keeta
Visha is found to be very difficult as these varieties are not yet correctly identified and
besides, regional variations of these insects manifests very differently. Most of the times
insect bites cases are unidentified as the signs and symptoms may be similar to other skin
diseases. Most of the times etiology being discarded and proper history taking is not being
done. A 15 years old female came with the complaint of itching and burning sensation over
face and reddish rash over face since morning, was diagnosed as an insect bite and she was
treated with Agada Principles which includes Rakshoghna, vishagna, krimigna, etc. Patient
had immediate good relief in symptoms.
