A WELLNESS GUIDE TO AMAVATA

. Abstract Amavata is a disease in which vitiation of Vata Dosha and accumulation of Ama take place in joints, and its symptoms are similar to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) at modern parlance. Amavata which is mentioned in Laghutrayees since the period of Madhavakara (16th century A.D.) under the category of Vata -Kaphaja disorders. Nidanas of Amavata are Viruddhahara, Viruddhachesta, Mandagni, and Vyayama after Snigdhahara. Amavata is one of the chronic, incurable disease and challenging disease for the practioners. The allopathic treatment provides the symptomatic relief but the pathology remains untreated due to absence of effective therapy and also giving rise to many side effects. The Ayurvedic treatment procedure are Langhana, Swedana, Tikta-katu dravya, Deepana, Virechana, Basti. In Ayurveda the prevention is always better than cure. There are various modalities of prevention like Pathya Ahara Vihara, Rasayana, Yoga and Rehabilitation treatment where the patients get better quality of life to live with Amavata.
