Abstract

CLINICAL EVALUATION OF AN INDIGENOUS FORMULATION KWATH FOR AVAGAHAN (SITZ BATH) IN THE MANAGEMENT OF PARIKARTIKA W.S.R TO ACUTE FISSURE-IN-ANO”: AN AYURVEDIC REVIEW

Abstract

Parikartika is a very common and most painful ano-rectal disorder which resembles with fissure-in-ano. In the present era, due to sedentary work pattern, increased stress, improper dietary and sleep habits, various lifestyle disorders are increasing continuously. In accordance with Ayurveda, Parikartika has no specific disease entity. Parikartika in our Samhita mentioned as symptoms associated with other diseases i.e- Virechana Vyapad, Basti Vyapad, Basti Netra Vyapad, Prodromal feature of Arsha and Garbhini Upadrava. There are various conservative and surgical treatment available for the management of Parikartika like stool softener, hot sitz bath, topical application of ointment, lords dilatation, lateral sphincterotomy etc. In addition to all above treatment available to give maximum relief to patient this article work will provide hot sitz for self-formulated medicated Kwath with luke warm water. Fissue-inano is longitudinal tear in anoderm either at 6 O’clock or 12 O’clock position of anus with cutting and burning pain there. So Parikartika considered as Sadhyo Vrana patient wants urgent relief from pain. So, I have selected utility of indigenous formulation Kwath as hot sitz bath (local Application). Ingredients of indigenous formulation Kwath are Shalmali, Jatamansi, Neem, Chandan, Ashok, Usheer, Sariva, Gokshur, Mahuva, Shal, Padmak, Lodhra, Aswath, and Udumbara. Indigenous formulation Kwath having the properties like Vednasthapana, Shothahara, Dahaprashaman, Raktastambhan, Varnasodhaka and Vranaropak.
