ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER (ADHD) - CONCEPTUAL STUDY

. Abstract Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is highly prevalent disorder in children worldwide and its prevalence in adults is recognised increasingly. It affects the school life of child, attaining goals, different abilities and different competitions of the students. ADHD is not just a childhood disorder. The symptoms begin to show in childhood, it can continue through adolescence and adulthood. A study had found that the prevalence of ADHD among primary school going student was 11.32.%. Prevalence was found to be higher among the males (66.7%) as compared to that of females (33.3%). There is much amount of stigma on mental health in India.[1] The present study is an attempt to address and recognise disorder such as ADHD early in childhood and help them to ensure proper and timely treatment.[2] Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) manifest in children with symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention. ADHD is vata-pitta predominant disorder. In Ayurveda, there are references in Samhita that cite symptoms associated with inattention, hyperactivity and compulsive behaviour as the symptoms of vata imbalance in the body.
