CONCEPT OF UPASHAYA-ANUPASHAYA AND IT’S IMPORTANCE: A REVIEW ARTICLE

. Abstract In Ayurveda Diagnosis is usually based on five techniques called as ‘Nidan Panchak’ which are Nidan (Cause or etiology), Purvarupa (Prodromal symptoms), Rupa (Sign and Systems), Upashaya and Anupashaya (exploratory method) and Samprapti (manifestation of disease). ‘Nidan Panchak’ is the basic tool for roga pariksha. Upashaya and Anupashaya is one among the Nidan Panchak. Upashaya is a state of relief from disease obtained through the use of medicines or food or vihar. while Anupashaya is state which aggravate disease. Upashaya and Anupashaya is an ancient Ayurvedic Daignosic tool to differentiate the disorders and to plan accurate remedial measures. In some cases of patients there is difficulty in diagnosis of disease due to some hidden things or mimicking nature of disease in such circumstances Upashaya and Anupashaya helps to diagnose the condition. In this present article an attempt has been made to understand clinical application of Upashaya and Anupashaya and it’s importance.
