AHARA KALPANA MENTIONED IN AYURVEDA CLASSICS W.S.R TO BRIHATRAYEE

. Abstract Diet has an important role for the maintenance of positive health in individuals, health and diseases are the outcome of ahara (food). Ayurvedic literature describe about Trayopasthambha, it helps to maintain a disease free life. A healthy person should take a balanced diet having all the six tastes in moderate amount. Charaka acharya mentioned wholesome food is one of the causes of growth and development of living being, while unwholesome food produces disease. Some of these ahara vargas cannot be used without applying the Kalpana. Use of this Kalpana make the raw dravyas suitable to human body. Acharyas have mentioned a kritanna varga, which include the processed food articles. Charaka Samhita, Susruta Samhita and Astanga sangraha are the brihatrayee, they were described ahara kalpanas in their treatise. 209 preparations were found in charaka Samhita, 191 in susrutha Samhita and 193 in Astanga sangraha were found.
