AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF CELLULITIS WITH JALAUKA VACHARAN: A CASE REPORT

. Abstract Cellulitis[1] is an acute inflammatory condition of dermis & subcutaneous tissue. It has an infective etiology & it is commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Steptococcus pyogens. It is spreading & pyogenic in nature & characterized by clinical features like localized pain, swelling, redness/erythma, increased temprature. Its management in modern medicine includes antibiotics like Beta Lactums, Anti-inflammatory drugs like NSAIDs, Glyserine- Mangnessium sulfate dressings and if turns into abscess Incision & drainage is must followed by wound management. According to Ayurveda cellulitis can be correlated with Pachyamanavastha[2] of vrana shofa. It is second avastha in the progression of pathogenesis of Vranashofa in which there is Pricking/ biting/ cutting/ burning pain, swelling, patient doesn’t find comfort on sitting or lying down, change in skin colour, fever, thirst, loss of appetite (Pittadoshadhikya). From ancient times in Ayurveda, Jalauka Avacharna (Raktmokshana)[3] has been used to treat shofa. Thus, we have decided to use Jalauka Avcharan in this patient to get relief from his symptoms.
