AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF GRIDHRASI WITH AGNIKARMA ALONG WITH SNEHANA, SWEDANA AND SHAMANA CHIKITSA

Abstract
Gridhrasi is shoolapradhana Nanatmaja Vata-vyadhi mainly caused
due to vitiation of Vata Dosha.
As described by Acharya Charak Gridhrasi is a characterised by
Sthambha, Ruk, Toda, Spandana.
These symptoms initially affect Sphik as well as posterior aspect of
kati and then gradually radiates to posterior aspects of Uru, Janu,
Jangha and Pada.
Sciatica is a neuralgic pain referred to the muscles supplied by the
sciatic nerve.
The medical treatment includes bed rest, maintaining mobility,
analgesics or NSAID, epidural steroid injections, spinal
manipulation, traction therapy and surgery in later course of the disease.
In Ayurveda different treatment modalities are described. It includes procedures like
snehana, swedana, and shodhana and shamana chikitsa along with Agnikarma.
