AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF GRIDHRASI WITH AGNIKARMA ALONG WITH SNEHANA, SWEDANA AND SHAMANA CHIKITSA

Abstract

 Gridhrasi is shoolapradhana Nanatmaja Vata-vyadhi mainly caused due to vitiation of Vata Dosha.  As described by Acharya Charak Gridhrasi is a characterised by Sthambha, Ruk, Toda, Spandana.  These symptoms initially affect Sphik as well as posterior aspect of kati and then gradually radiates to posterior aspects of Uru, Janu, Jangha and Pada.  Sciatica is a neuralgic pain referred to the muscles supplied by the sciatic nerve.  The medical treatment includes bed rest, maintaining mobility, analgesics or NSAID, epidural steroid injections, spinal manipulation, traction therapy and surgery in later course of the disease.  In Ayurveda different treatment modalities are described. It includes procedures like snehana, swedana, and shodhana and shamana chikitsa along with Agnikarma.
