Abstract

SODHAN AND AYURVEDIC MEDICAMENTS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF DYSLIPIDEMIA- A CASE STUDY

Abstract

Dyslipidaemia is highly prevalent and is one of major risk factors for Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Globally, a third of ischaemic heart disease is attributable to high cholesterol. Unfortunately, 17 million people die to CVD each year and it is estimated to reach 24.8 million in 2030 in the world. For such metabolic diseases modern medicines gives only symptomatic management with many side effects. Ayurvedic approach to pathogenesis and its management can provide the solution to rising cases of this disease. An Ayurvedic holistic approach can minimize the risk factor in a better way by reducing the dyslipidemia. To assess the Clinical efficacy of Ayurvedic approach in the management of Dyslipidaemia using clinical symptoms and laboratory investigation, randomly a case of Dyslipidemia was selected for the study. Here we present a case that was successfully treated with Ayurvedic management. A 57 year old female, suffering from dyslipidemia since 1 year, was treated on the line of management of Medavaha srotagata vyadhi (Medovriddhi). 1st Deepana-pachan with lahasunadi vati and Kostha sodhan for 3 days done followed by Kshara basti for along with some Ayurvedic oral medicines such as Navaka guggulu 500 mg thrice in a day, Medahara Vidangadi louham 250 mg twice daily with Triphala kwatha 50 ml twice daily was advised. Clinical symptoms are reduced, and laboratory parameters were significantly changed at the end of treatment. This study demonstrates that for the management of dyslipidaemia like metabolic diseases Ayurveda may be a better choice in near further. To established it we need more evidence based studies.
