APPLIED ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF GIT RELATED TO VAMANA AND VIRECHANA

Abstract Ayurveda, the science of life has been helping people to lead a healthy and happy from time unknown, a major role in this is of Panchakarma namely Vamana, Virechana, Niruha Basti, Anuvasana Basti, Nasya, out of all these Vamana and Virechana are said to interfere with koshtha of the individual, now anatomically koshtha, the mahasrotas[1] is a cavity formed by avarana which is consisting of Dhatus, it extends from mouth till anus which means the complete digestive system, physiologically koshtha signifies the nature of digestive process in the human body, according to the dosha predominance it can be of three types Krura, Mrudu, Madhyama.[2] Before conducting the procedures like Vamana, Virechana it becomes pivotal that the Vaidya must have the knowledge about anatomy and physiology of digestive tract along with it’s applied aspects.
