Tarun Parihar*, Anita Sharma and Somil Soni
Abstract
A pesticide is a chemical or biological substance that deters,
incapacitates, or kills pests, such as viruses, bacteria, antimicrobials, or
disinfectants. Pesticide residue is defined as any substance or mixture
of substances found in food for humans or animals as a result of longterm
pesticide use. Pesticides are such types of chemicals that the
potential health effects allow them to be classified as carcinogenic (can
cause cancer), neurotoxic (can cause damage to the brain), or
teratogenic (can cause damage to a fetus). In ayurveda, accumulation
of any type of poison (sthavar jangam and kritrim), such as pesticide,
is considered a Dushi visha. In Ayurveda text, there are many drugs
and formulations that have the potential to neutralise the effect of pesticide residue and treat
the harmful effects of the pesticide. Therefore, this article concludes with the pesticide,
pesticide residue, its harmful effects, and treatment with ayurvedic drugs and formulation.
