RELEVANCE OF SHODHANA CHIKITSA IN METABOLIC DISORDERS

Abstract
WHO defined metabolic syndrome as the presence of insulin resistance
in addition to two of the factors like obesity, hyperlipidemia,
hypertension or micro-albuminuria. In India 35% of female and 26%
of males are suffering with metabolic syndrome. To maintain basal
metabolic rate, Agni plays an important role which can be correlated
with dhatwagnimandhya in ayurveda. Various nidana like intake of
sweet, oily, heavy food, lack of exercise etc vitiates kapha, mamsa and
medodhatu in the body that cause medodhatwagni mandhya which
ultimately lead to santharpana janya vikaras like prameha, atisthoulya
etc which exhibits similar symptoms of metabolic disorders. For
santharpana janya vyadhi, apatarpana will be the main treatment. Shodhana is one of the
main treatments among apatarpana chikitsa as it offers substantial & persistant results.
Effective and safe management for metabolic syndrome through ayurveda is the need of the
hour as conventional medical science failed to provide a sustainable remedy.
