Abstract

A CRITICAL REVIEW OF VISHAGHNA DRAVYA MENTIONED IN DHANVANTARI NIGHANTU

Abstract

Background: The present review is aimed at providing comprehensive information about Vishghna (Antipoisinous) Dravya that is mentioned in Dhanvantri Nighantu which is used as a medicine for the treatment of the poisoning disease condition. Aim: To provide comprehensive information about Vishaghna Dravya (Anti-toxic drug) mentioned in Dhanvanri Nighantu which are used as a medicine for treatment of different animate, inanimate poison and metallic poison. Material and Method: Lord Dhanvantri wrote Dhanvanri Nighantu and describes a large number of Vishghana Dravyas. The text is highlighted with Karmaoushadi (action-based drugs) and is used as an Ayurveda drug index. It is very important to have knowledge of medicinal plants that have Vishaghna (antitoxic) properties; these drugs play an important role in management of Vishjanya Roga. For the discussion, all of the gathered information has been reorganized and critically reviewed, and an attempt has been made to draw certain meaningful insight. Result & Conclusion: As a result the current study was designed to screen the drugs having Vishghna property from Dhanvantri Nighantu on the basis of their Rasa, Guna, Veerya, Vipaka and corresponding reference mentioned in it and in this study only the drugs which having Vishaghna Karma described in Sholoka are taken. There are 96 single drugs and 1 complex drug described in Dhanvantri Nighantu that poses Vishghna Karma and are scattered throughout the text and include plants, mineral and animal origin.
