IMPORTANCE OF SWASTHVRITTA AS HEALTH PROMOTION

Abstract
Ayurveda is not only an ancient medical science of the human
civilization but also a holistic health science which deals with each
individual as well as at community level in entirety. But in present era
Pragyapardha is a route cause at all dosha vitiation. Due to this, ill
health is on the rise, with some diseases affecting not only the health of
individuals but also that of a nation’s economy with their increasing
healthcare cost. The objective of preventive medicine is to oppose the
disease in order to preserve the health, promote the health, prolong the
life and to minimize sufferings. Food is said to be cause of stability for
all the living beings. Swasthavritta or the promotion of health is one of
the strongest and most unique aspects of Ayurvedic medicine. In
Samhitas Acharya’s mentioned Swasthvritta fully which emphasises on the rules of conduct
and its effects on social and behavioural aspects of life. Guidelines of prevention and
promotion of health are descried in details at every stage of life from garbhavastha to
jarawastha. All such guidelines described in Ayurveda are collectively called as swasthvritta.
Daily regimen, seasonal regimen, sadvritta dietary guidelines, Rasayana, rules for sleep and
Brahmacharya etc are the main concept of swasthvritta for wholesome life.
