A REVIEW OF PRASARINI SANDHANAM AND ITS CONTENTS

Abstract
Introduction: Prasarini sandhanam is mentioned in Amavata
adhikara of chakradatta. This yoga is an arishta preparation and
consists of Gandhaprasarini, lashuna and panchakola. Mandagni
(Hypo-functioning) of digestive fire is considered as the root cause for
manifestation of all diseases. Amavata is caused due to the formation
of ama rasa and increased vata which resides in joints causing pain,
swelling, stiffness and loss of structural integrity. In ayurveda,
Amavata can be co-related to Rheumatoid arthritis based on its clinical
signs and symptoms. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic inflammatory
disease of unknown aetiology marked by a symmetric, peripheral
polyarthritis. It is the most common form of chronic inflammatory arthritis and often results
in joint damage and physical disability. Gandha prasarini (Paederia foetida) is proved drug
having anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. Lashuna is having anti-inflammatory,
analgesic, immunomodulatory and anti-arthritic properties. Panchakola is having deepana,
ama-pachana, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-oxidant and immunomodulatory actions.
Hence Prasarini sandhanam helps in relieving the pain, stiffness, swelling, inflammation and
prevent further destruction of joints.
