CASE STUDY: ROLE OF AYURVEDIC SHAMANA CHIKITSA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF VAATARAKTA

Abstract
Vaatarakta is very commonly found disease in routine OPD. Acharyas
have mentioned Vaatarakta independently as a major Vyadhi. It is a
type of life style disorder mainly related with comfortable life, lack of
excercie, Vata prakopaka and Rakta dusti Aahar Vihar sevan as
described by Acharya Charak.[1] The symptoms of Vaatarakta is
mainly related to joints and skin.[2] Several drugs and formulations
have been described in Ayurvedic texts in the management of
Vatarakta, out of which we have selected specific Ayurvedic
formulations in its treatment. Method: It is a single case study of a
65yr old male patient having complaints of pain & swelling in left big
toe with reduced appetite. Result: The patient got significant relief in
the symptoms of Vaatarakta with classical Ayurvedic Shamana
Chikitsa prescribed for 21 days.
