PHARMACOGNOSTICAL AND PHARMACEUTICAL ANALYSIS OF PATOLADHANYAKADI KWATH

Abstract
Introduction: Patoladhanyakadi Kwath is a herbal compound
formulation mentioned in Chakradatta in Amlapitta Rogadhikara and
also for other indications such as Mandagni, Jvara, Chhardi, Daha,
Shoola, Ama and diseases caused by the provocation of Tridosha.
Materials & Methods: Patoladhanyakadi Kwath underwent
Pharmacognostical and Physico-chemical analysis such as microscopic
study, loss on drying, ash value etc. Results & Discussion: The
Pharmacognostical research revealed the presence of the following
contents such as; spiral vessels of Patola, vittae cells of Dhanyak,
starch grains Sunthi, cork cells of Musta etc. The Pharmaceutical analysis showed that the
loss on drying value was 5.10%, pH Value was 7.2, Alcohol soluble extract 8.7%, Ash value
6% etc. HPTLC study of Patoladhanyakadi Kwath revealed 4 spots at 254 nm and at 366 nm
each. Conclusion: The current work was carried out to standardize the finished product
Patoladhanyakadi Kwath in terms of its identity, quality and purity. Pharmacognostical and
Physico-chemical observations revealed the specific characteristics of all active constituents
used in the preparation.
