Abstract
The use of durian seed flour (Durio zibethinus Murr) as an alternative
medium for mushroom growth was investigated. The goal of this study
is to identify the medium of durian seed flour that can be used as a
growing medium for Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans, as well
as the fungal growth characteristics in durian seed flour media. In the
experiment, six different formulations of durian seed flour media and
one control medium, PDA media, were used. The first test used
Aspergillus niger inoculated using the agar block method, which
incubated for 72 hours at 37 ᵒC and was observed every 24 hours. The
second test is done in C. albicans was inoculated using the pour
method and incubated for 48 hours at 37 ᵒC. The fifth formula (F5) of
durian seed flour media with a concentration of 10 grams of durian seed flour and additional
micronutrients performed best as a Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger growth medium.
The number of C. albicans colonies obtained is 4.5 x107 CFU/ml. The diameter of the A.
niger colony grown after 72 hours was 29.8 mm. However, Aspergillus niger sporulation
grows best in PDA media. Durian seed flour media can be used as an alternative medium for
mushroom growth.
