Abstract
A superficial spectrophotometric method for determination of
microgram amounts of 2-isopropyl-5-methyl phenol in pure
mouthwash. The technique is based on an oxidative coupling reaction
between 2-isopropyl-5-methyl phenol(thymol) and 2,5 di methoxy
aniline in the basic medium which shows maximum absorption at
452nm. Beer’s law has obeyed the range of (2-40) μg.ml-1 of thymol. A
molar absorptivity (1.6997×104) l mol-1 cm-1, and Sandell index of
0.013μg/cm2. The best conditions for all color development are
described and proposed methods were successfully applied to the
determination of thymol in mouthwash arrangements. The communal
excipients and extracts did not affect in this method.
