Abstract
Chrozophora plicata (Family Euphorbiaceae) traditionally used in
folkloric medicine to cure some diseases. The leaves were extracted
and tested for their secondary metabolites and toxic effects. C plicata
ethanolic extracts represented high presence of saponins and tannins,
moderate presence of steroids, trace presence of alkaloids and
triterpens were observed. Also negative result of Cumarins and
flavonoids were detected. Most rats which were dosed with C plicata
extracts exhibited significant decrease of ALT, AST, ALP, and total
protein, globulin and albumin, while significant increase represented in
bilirubin. The histopathological change varied between congested
portal veins, necrotic, kuppfer cells proliferation and cytoplasmic eosinophilia.
