ROLE OF AYURVEDA IN ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGY

Abstract
A field of study in environmental science that is concerned with the
assessment of toxic substances in the environment-, is called
environmental toxicology.[1] Pollution is the introduction of harmful
materials into the environment. These harmful materials are called
pollutants. Some pollutants produce acute symptoms and some
produce symptoms after a long time. Regular exposure to pollutants
like dust, chemicals, etc. results in the accumulation of these
substances in our body and causes illness. The three major types of
pollution are air pollution, water pollution, and land pollution. Agad
Tantra is a special branch of Astang Ayurved that deals with the study
of all types of poisons and their treatment. The concept of air pollution, water pollution, and
soil pollution have also been discussed in classical texts and their role in causing pandemics.
This article will give an approach to find out solutions for environmental pollution through
ancient science.
