A REVIEW ON ANIMAL STUDIES IN DRUG DEVELOPMENT

Abstract
Drug discovery is the process by which new candidate medications are
discovered. The purpose of animal studies is to verify the
pharmacologic activity of the new drug, identify any unexpected
pharmacologic activity and develop initial data based on the action of
the drug in vivo. Institutional Animals Ethics Committee means a body
comprising of a group of persons recognized and registered by the
Committee for the purpose of control and supervision of
experiments on animals performed in an establishment which is
constituted and operated in accordance with procedures specified for
the purpose by the Committee. Anesthesia is the use of medicines to
prevent pain during surgery and other procedures. Euthanasia it is the state causes death
without pain. Skeletal muscle relaxants are used to treat conditions associated with hyper
excitable skeletal muscle—specifically, spasticity and muscle spasms. Anxiolytics are agents
prescribed to treat and prevent symptoms of anxiety or for the management of anxiety
disorders.
