Abstract
Yonishaithilya is one of the common clinical conditions met in day
today gynecological practice especially amongst the parous women. It
also has a significant impact on sexual function. According to
Ayurveda Samhitas, yonishaithilya represents the signs symptoms of
different yonivyapadas such as Phalini yoni, Prasamsrini yoni,
Mahayoni etc. Yonishaithilya's etiology, signs, symptoms, is similar to
vaginal laxity. It is a sensation of vaginal looseness which may develop
after pregnancy and vaginal delivery and may be affected by prior
pelvic surgery, menopause and aging. Vaginal childbirth may result in
vaginal introital laxity, altered genital sensation during sexual
intercourse, and reduced sexual satisfaction. It is still little discussed
among patients and their physicians. In modern medical science for the
treatment of vaginal laxity common procedures include surgical (e.g.,
vaginal tightening, labia minoraplasty, labia majoraplasty, clitoral hood
reduction, clitoral unhooding, lipofilling, and hymen reconstruction) or nonsurgical (e.g.,
energy-based treatments, platelet-rich plasma interventions which are costly and may have
some side effects. There is a need to evaluate non-surgical options that offer minimal adverse
effects at lower costs for women with vaginal laxity complaints. Ayurveda explains many
ways for curing Yoni Roga requiring local therapeutic measures, Sthanik Chikitsa is one of
them. Yoni-dhoopana, Yoni-Lepana, yoni prakshalana etc. are common approaches of
Sthanik Chikitsa which are useful in yonishaithilya. These non-surgical and less invasive techniques offers health benefits to retain reproductive health of female and does not imparts
