Abstract
Arshas (haemorrhoids) is one among the ano rectal disease which
occurs in Gudapradesha (anus) a Sadhyopranahara Marma. Acharya
Sushruta and Vagbhata describe it under Ashta Mahagada. It is due to
sedentary lifestyle, irregular and inappropriate diet, low fiber diet,
prolonged sitting or standing, diarrhea, constipation etc. A
conservative management, surgery, etc is followed to treat it. In
Ayurveda prime cause is disturbances in the jatharagni. Four measures
explained in the line of treatment are, Bheshaja (medicinal), Kshara
(chemical cautery), Agni(thermal cauterization) and Shastra(surgery)
by Acharya Shusruta, Chakradatta etc to combat this condition.
Bheshaja chikitsa is mentioned mainly for Arsha in the earlier stages,
where the Doshas involved, symptoms and complications are not very severe.[1] For this
various Rasa yogas like Arsha Kuthara Rasa, Bol Baddha Rasa, Nityodita Rasa, Arshoghna
Vati, kasisadya taila etc. Bhaishajya yogas like Kankayana Vati, Triphala Guggulu,
Abhayarishta, Drakshasava, Chandanasava, Surana Vataka, Kshara Sutra, Takra proyoga
etc are commonly practiced in the treatment of arshas. Based on the yukti (intelligence) of the
physician these yogas are used in various types of Arsha.
