Abstract
Vataraktahara Kashaya Churna is a herbal formulation, ingredients
used in the drug are Shatavari and Guduchi. Guduchi is Tridoshahara,
Dahahara and it has Vatasra guna which is used to treat Vatarakta, as
Guduchi has Ushna Veerya, but due to its Madhura Vipaka it helps in
Daha shamana. Shatavari has Shophagna Guna and balances Vata
and Pitta. Attempt has been made to study Physico and Phyto chemical
analysis of the drug. Preliminary Physico Phyto chemical studies was
done using standard procedures with aqueous, chloroform, ethanol,
methanol and acetone extracts of drug. The different extracts of drug
were extracted by Soxhlet apparatus (Hot percolation method). The
results of the test showed the presence of mild alkaloids, carbohydrate,
flavonoids, saponin, diterpens, gum and mucilage and absence of
phenols, tannins, quinones. The ingredients of the drug has Tridoshahara, Dahahara,
Shothahara and Vatasra guna along with anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, anti-arthritic,
anti- pyretic which are mainly needed for treating Vatarakta. The inference from this study
can be used as reference standard in further quality control researches.
