Abstract
Plectranthus amboinicus (Lour.) Spreng. belonging to the Lamiaceae
family is widely cultivated in the Indo-Malaysian region and other
regions around the world and is used in Folk medicine for the
treatment of various diseases and also for culinary purposes. Essential
oils, flavonoids, polyphenols, tannins, terpenes, glycosides, steroids,
and saponins are mainly believed to be responsible for their therapeutic
activities. It is known to possess neuropharmacological activities such
as antiepileptic, anxiolytic, and neuroprotective activities. Antioxidant,
anti-inflammatory, antihyperglycemic, and antihyperlipidemic
activities also support their neuropharmacological profile. In this
article information regarding the neuropharmacological attributes of
Plectranthus amboinicus (Lour.) Spreng. has been summarized.
