Dr. Sakshi*

Abstract

One of the most prevalent lifestyle disorders is hypertension. Blood pressure greater than 140/90 mm Hg is the threshold for it. It also goes by the name "silent killer." Because of the speed of industrialization and the stress of modern life, the prevalence rate of hypertension is rising steadily nowadays. An key factor in the onset of hypertension is an unhealthy lifestyle and eating habits. There is no mention of hypertension in either Samhita or Grantha. Therefore, it is challenging to determine the exact co-relation in Ayurveda. Dosha, Dushya, and Strotas can be used to explain the condition. In Charaka Sutrasthana- 18, Acharya Charaka explains that if an ailment is unknown, the doctor should attempt to comprehend the nature of the sickness through Dosha, Dushya, and Samprapti before administering medicine in accordance with that nature. There are several medications available in contemporary medicine to manage blood pressure, but they all have negative effects. People are therefore turning to Ayurvedic medicine. The Ayurvedic approach to treating hypertension and its complications relies on correct Dincharya, Ritucharya, Pathya-Apathya, lifestyle control, Shodhan, and Shaman Chikitsa.
