Abstract
Background: De Clerambault's syndrome, commonly known as
erotomania, is defined by the patient's delusion that another person is
in love with them. On rare occasions, it manifests as a part of
psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Case presentation: The patient was a 37-year-old unmarried woman
belonging to a lower socio-economic status. Primarily she was
diagnosed as Bipolar, soon after she had the delusion that the treating
doctor was in love with her. Her symptoms, such as false belief,
decreased sleep, suspiciousness, stalking behaviour. She was treated
with mood stabilizers and anti-psychotics. Conclusions: This case
study raises the notion that De Clerambault's syndrome and bipolar
disorder are interrelated. Further investigations are required to clarify the clinical course of
such patients.
Keywords: De Clerambault's syndrome, erotomania, delusion, Bipolar Disorder, ICD.
