Abstract
BMD or bone mass density or bone mineral density or bone
densitometry is indicated in osteoporosis and is also used to predict the
risk of bone fracture. In terms of Ayurveda, we can assess the optimum
strength of asthi dhatu and majja dhatu by it. The result in the form of
a T score and Z score gives the clue of the condition of dosha, dhatu,
and mala in Ayurveda. The optimum condition of asthi dhatu and
majja dhatu can be examined clinically in a patient by the lakshana of
asthi and majja sarta, while loss of asthi dhatu and majja dhatu can be
examined clinically in a patient by the lakshana of asthikshaya and
majjakshaya.
Keywords: Asthi dhatu, BMD, Majjadhatu, T score, Z score.
