Dr. Lalit Tiwari*
Abstract
The aim of Pariksha is to examine the patient and diagnose the disease.
Acharya Charak said that it is necessary to examine the patient before
giving any treatment. If the physician treats the patient without proper
examination, he would not able to treat the patient effectively. For
examination of patient various examination methods are described in
Ayurveda namely Dwidha, Trividha, Chaturvidha, Sadvidha,
Asthavidha, Dashvidha and Dwadash Pariksha. The concept of
Dwadash Pariksha was given by Acharya Shusruta. Dwadash Pariksha
include the examination of Ayu (Life span), Vyadhi (Disease), Ritu
(Season), Agni (Digestive power), Vaya (Age), Deha (Body build),
Bala (Strength). Satva (Mind), Satmaya (Conductive factor), Prakriti
(Constitition), Bhesaja (Drug) and Desha (Habitat). The most
important part of Dwadash Pariksha is Ayu Pariksha. Examination of other eleven parameters
of Dwadash Pariksha has no mean if there is no Ayu left, so before treating the patient Ayu
should be examined. Dwadash Pariksha helps the physician to treat the patient effectively.
