Abstract

CONCEPTUAL STUDY ON SHADARASA SIDDHANTA TO PROMOTE HEALTH AND PREVENT DISEASES

Abstract

Shadrasa are six types of Taste. These six types of Rasa (Taste) are originated from the Panchamahabhuta. These six Rasa are Madhura(Sweet), Amla (Sour), Lavana (Salty), Katu (Pungent), Tikta (Bitter), and Kashaya (Astringent) rasa. These rasa feels by Rasanendriya/Jihva (Tongue). Detailed explanation of Shadarasa - Madhura rasa is suitable for everyone, and it increases/ nourishes Rasa dhatu, Rakta dhatu, Mansa dhatu, Meda dhatu, Asthi dhatu, Majja dhatu, Shukra dhatu and Oja(Extract of all dhatu). Amla rasa increases/nousishes taste for intake of food, increases digestive fire, body weight, increases perception, increases sense power, increases body strength. Lavana rasa digests, moistens food, increases secretion of digestive juices, increases all type of secretions, it cuts bonds, tears epidermal layer, It has sharp, dynamic, antispasmodic property. Katu rasa is also called Katuka. It clears oral cavity, increases (Pitta) digestive fire, absorbs watery part of food, increases secretion of Kapha through nose, and eyes, clears senses of sensory organs. Tikta rasa has Aruchi (bad taste) but it decreases bad oral taste, suppresses or eliminates poisonous effect of any drug. It suppresses Murchha(Syncope), Daha(Burning sensation), Kandu(Itching), Kustha (various skin diseases), Trisna (excessive thirst). It increases Lekhana (scraping of body tissues), decreases Kleda (moistuire), Meda. Kashaya rasa suppresses Tridosha, it has Samgrahi guna (collecting property), and Sandhankari guna (bonding property). It suppresses Abscess and drains its pus, it has Ropana (healing property). These are the properties and functions of Shadarasa which play important role in treatment, and prevention of diseases and health promotion. Harmfull effects of each rasa- if Madhura rasa Ahara is taken in excessive quantity in daily diet, it causes of Obesity, Muscle softness, laziness, heaviness, Anorexia, Weak digestion, Excessive muscle growth if Amla rasa Ahara is taken in excessive quantity in daily diet, it causes Teeth sensitivity, Thirst, Eye constriction, Closing eye, Horripilation etc. if Lavanarasa Ahara is taken in excessive quantity in daily diet, it causes Pitta vitiation, Increases blood volume, Thirst etc. if Katu rasa Ahara is taken in excessive quantity in daily diet, it causes Infertility, loss of consciousness, loss of excitement, etc. Correlation of Shadarasa siddhanta with others Ayurvediya siddhanta- In ayurveda Shadarasa Siddhanta in every Brihattrayee Samshita like charaka, Sushruta, Vagbhatta Samhita and Laghuttrayee Samhita have approved and applicable. It is also correlated with other siddhanta like Panchamahabhuta siddhanta, Tridosha siddhanta, Sapta Dhatu Siddhanta, Vinshati Guna etc. Discussion- After this description it has found that nature has give us all type of food and medicine for our proper growth, and treatment. Ayurveda gives us an idea to apply this type of food and medicine on easy way. This concept has followed by every Ayurvediya Samhita. Conclusion- Hence we can say that Shadarasa siddhanta is applicabe in our modern life style to make us healthy. If a health conscious person should follow this concept on diet.
