ROLE OF SWA-ANGULI-PRAMANA IN HUMAN HEALTH A CRITICAL APPROACH

*Dr. Hemendra Kumar Verma, Dr. Amit Gehlot and Prof. Mahendra Sharma

Abstract

Purpose: Ayurveda in its principle has given importance to individualistic approach rather than generalize. Application of this examination can be clearly seemed like even though two patients suffering from same disease, the treatment modality may change depending upon the results of Dashvidha Pariksha. Bala Pramana and Anguli Pramana both used in Dashvidha pariksha. Both determine the health of the individual and Bala (strength) of Rogi (Patient). Ayurveda followed Swa- Angula Pramana as the unit of measurement for measuring the different parts of the body which is prime step in assessing patient before treatment. Acharya Shusruta and Charak had stated different Angula Pramana of each Pratyanga (body parts). The Anguli Pramana had been standardised by many researchers. Anguli Pramana is the subject of this systematic review, which also seeks to give a narrative synthesis of all the published literature that is currently available. Methods: Review of Ayurvedic Samhitas as Brihatrayee and Laghutrayee and Rachana Sharir text books as Dristant-Sharir, Sharir Rachna Vigyan and Sushrut Samshita Sharirsthan. Review of all available literature related to modern anthropometry and review of internet materials, journals, periodicals and previous research papers related to this subject. Results: Anguli Pramana is a special and distinctive idea found only in Ayurveda. Angula Pramana is an age-old technique for quantifying the scales of various human body parts. The average of the mediolateral proximal interphalangeal joint of the middle finger on the right and left hands should be used to measure Anguli Prana, and the unit of measurement should be one Angula rather than the average of Chatur Anguli for the two hands. Conclusion: There is a clear connection between human health and Pramana; Pramana Pareeksha is one of the Dashavidh Pareeksha, and the main objective of this examination's tenfold is to get insight into human health.

Keywords: Ayurveda, Pramana Sharir Anguli Pramana, Measurement.
