Abstract

TO EVALUATE THE EFFICACY OF CHINCHADI LEHYA IN SUTIKA PANDU: A CASE REPORT

Abstract

A woman who has completed all stages of labour, including expulsion of the placenta is sutika. Due to garbhavriddi there will be sarvadhatukshaya, pravahana vedana, and kleda raktasrava during pregnancy causing dhatu agni balakshaya in turn vitiating vata dosha. Hence the women with shoonya shareera because of prasava vedana is more prone to various sutika vyadhis. Acharya kashyapa has enumerated 74 sutika rogas & has mentioned sutika pandu under sutikopakramaneeya adhyaya. Pandu is a pitta pradhana tridoshaja vikara, the dushti of rasavaha srotas affects the nirmana & poshana of uttarottaradhatus. Hridayaspandana, raukshya, shrama, aruchi, annadwesha, hatanala, shishiradwesha are striking clinical presentations. These features which are seen in patients of sutika pandu can be correlated to postpartum anaemia. In this case a 26 year old female primi patient who had underwent elective LSCS, complaining of generalised weakness reduced appetite, generalised body ache, headache, difficulty climbing stairs, tiredness, tastlessness on postpartum day 2 was noticed in the ward of SDM ayurveda hospital hassan. On investigation her Haemoglobin % was found to be 10gm% & other blood parameters (CBC & peripheral blood smear)were assessed on postpartum day 2. Methods: The condition was treated with internal administration of chinchadi lehya 1 karsha (BD) for 45 days from postpartum day 5 where other medications were withheld. Discussion: Chinchadi lehya contains drugs that are having Agnideepana, Srotoshodana, Rasayana qualities thereby it helps for Uttarottaradhatu poshana, inturn curing panduroga. Result: The pandu related symptoms mentioned above got reduced within 45 days with gradual raise in Haemoglobin% and other blood parameters. Conclusion: Postpartum anaemia is the common problem throughout the world and it’s the most common puerperal complication which increase the risk of maternal morbidity. So its high time to come up with ayurveda as this problem is emerging day by day. Here chinchadi lehya in sutika pandu has shown promising result in curing the disease.
