Abstract
Hand Sanitization plays the most important part in prevention and
reduction of infectious diseases. As we observed in COVID pandemic,
the finest approach was to manage this threat by sanitize our hand
properly. Maintaining hand sanitization could prevent the incidence of
infectious diseases. Taking into consideration, we prepared herbal hand
sanitizer using two plant extracts of Ocimum sanctum and Azadiracta
indica with several ingredients such as isopropyl alcohol, glycerol,
kapoor and hydrogen peroxide. All the ingredients used in this
formulation showed antimicrobial property. The study showed that the
used of hand sanitizer was more efficient than washing hands.
Washing hands may cause spreading of infections. Phytochemical
study of extracts was performed. The ingredients and sanitizer were evaluated for
antimicrobial activity against two bacterial strains of E. coli and C. albicans and gave zone of
inhibition of (8 ± 1) mm and (7 ± 1) mm respectively. The sanitizer was prepared in the
laboratory and its efficacy was checked, its shelf life, pH and other physical parameters were
evaluated.
