A CASE REPORT ON SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT OF MADHUMEGA VIRANAM (DIABETIC FOOT ULCER) USING TRADITIONAL SIDDHA MEDICINE

Abstract
Diabetic patients develop foot ulcer (Madhumega viranam) due to their unawareness about the impact of increase in blood glucose level or careless medication. Gangrene is one of the major diabetic foot complications. Chronic ischemia leads to tissue necrosis which results in numb, wrinkled and dead tissues. This creates situation of amputation to prevent further damage to the leg. However, failure to perform amputation results in auto-amputation and the subsequent negligence of medication undergoes to fatal situation. Initial stage of gangrene shall be cured through antibiotic treatment. Worst case of gangrene demands surgical amputation to prevent the spread of septicemia to the remaining parts of the body. This work has considered the patient whose right leg had Madhumega viranam (diabetic foot ulcer). The patient was hospitalized in acute condition to undergo initial management for one week. Thus injured Madhumega viranam (diabetic foot ulcer) was recovered using careful Siddha treatment and proper periodical dressing of the wound.
