FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF NATURAL LIPSTICK PREPARED FROM JAVA PLUM EXTRACT

Abstract
The aim of the study was to formulate and evaluate herbal lipsticks
using natural dyes. The purpose was to make jamun extract and natural
ingredients to make herbal lipstick with jamun pulp and cow’s ghee
and to evaluate the finished lipsticks. Cosmetics have been in
incredible demand since recorded history and to this day. Cosmetics
are mixtures of chemical compounds derived from natural sources or
manufactured synthetically. Lipstick formulations and ratings are most
commonly used to enhance or transform the appearance through the
beauty of the lips and add a touch of glamor to makeup. In such cases,
naturally prepared lipsticks, or nutraceutical lipsticks, help heal topical
conditions and beautify lips. With this goal and purpose in mind,
nutritional supplement lipsticks are formulated and evaluated using herbal excipients such as
cow's fat and honey, replacing synthetic ingredients such as lanolin, acetyl alcohol and castor
oil. Java plum extract containing vitamin C, which acts as an antioxidant and aids in the
formation of collagen in the skin. The lipsticks were evaluated for parameters such as melting
point, breaking point, pH parameters, spreadability to obtain a satisfactory product. A
nutraceutical lipstick preparation containing Java plum extract (jamun juice), cowboy and
honey was found to be satisfactory with desired properties such as colour, spreadability and
smoothness. This formula has the potential to increase consumer acceptance through the use
of alternative natural ingredients and safe colorants.
