Abstract
A reactive hyperplastic inflammatory lesion, the peripheral ossifying
fibroma is a non-neoplastic gingival lesion. It typically affects women
in their second decade of life and tends to affect the anterior portion of
the maxilla and small percentage in the mandible. This study describes
a case of peripheral ossifying fibroma in a 60-year-old patient who had
a 4-year history of swelling in the mandibular left anterior region.
Clinically, it appeared as a well-defined, pedunculated lesion that was
firm and elastic in consistency, pale pink in color with an erythematous
patch. An occlusal radiograph was taken that revealed a tiny amount of
bone development in the area of the lesion. The lesion was removed
surgically and there was no sign of resurgence.
