Dr. Sandhya Kushwaha*, Dr. Padma Lochan Sankhua and Dr. Prem Kant Yadav
. Abstract Calcaneal spur is a bony outgrowth from calcaneum bone which occurs when foot is exposed to constant strain and it leads to calcium deposition in heel bone. It is a painful condition. It can be described in Ayurveda as Vatakantaka and can be treated with Agnikarma. In present case, a 40 years old female suffering from calcaneal spur was treated with Agnikarma in four sittings without any oral medication. The pain was relieved partially after first sitting and completely after four sittings. In Vatakantaka, Vata Dosha gets vitiated by placing the foot improperly (while walking), by over exertion of the foot or walking on uneven ground and there by the accumulated Vata Dosha in ankle joint causing pain in heel region. Agnikarma treatment is carried out with a special instrument made up of 5 metals (Copper, Iron, Zinc, Silver & Lead), thus is named as Pancha Dhatu Shalaka. In Ayurvedic view, pain in calcaneal spur is due to Asthisnayugata Vata. Agnikarma therapy is mostly used in the treatment of calcaneal spur by treating Vata. The procedure of Agnikarma is very short and gives instant relief. Keywords: Calcaneal spur, Agnikarma, Panch Dhatu Shalaka, Vatakantaka, Heel pain. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
