Abstract

NEW ANTIBACTERIAL TRITERPENOID SAPONIN FROM STEMS OF CASSIA ABSUS LINN.

Abstract

A new triterpenoid saponin 3-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→3)-O-β-Dxylopyranosyl-( 1→4)-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl]-bauerenol (1), together with two known compounds 3-β-hydroxyolean-12-ene-28-oic acid and β-sitosterol were isolated from ethanolic extract of the stems of Cassia absus Linn. Their structures were elucidated by various colour reactions, spectral analysis and chemical degradations. Compound 1 showed antibacterial activity.
