Abstract

The more number of medicinal plants used through out world only a few are available commercially as teas, tablets, ointments, and such, but not much as infusions in herbal soaps. Soap acts as an emulsifier or a surfactant that softens the horny layer of the epidermis and also as a germicide that increases the permeability of the microbial envelope resulting in a disruption of the integrity of microbial cells. Most of the commercially available herbal soaps infused with plants are for treatment of uneven toned skin and acne but not for other skin infections. Despite the well-documented ethno-botanical literature, there is limited scientific information available regarding the efficacy of herbal soaps in prevention and treatment of skin infections. More work beyond the laboratory validation of medicinal plants is still needed. The objective of these review is to explore about hyperpigmentation and use of herbs.
