SIMPLE AND EFFICIENT SYNTHESIS OF BIS-(4- HYDROXYCOUMARIN-3-YL)METHANE DERIVATIVES USING LGLUTAMIC ACID AS CATALYST

Abstract
In the present study, we reports synthesis of bis-(4-hydroxycoumarin-
3-yl)methaneby the one-pot-multicomponent reaction of different
substituted aromatic aldehyde/heterocyclic aldehydes and 4-
hydroxycoumarine in the presence of L-Glutamic acid (5mol %) as a
catalyst in water : ethanol (1:1). The reaction mixture was stirred at
reflux temperature for specified period of time. We found that this is a
facile and efficient method for the synthesis of bis-(4-
hydroxycoumarin-3-yl)methane. The prominent features of this
method are the inexpensive reagents, simple and safe experimental
procedure, easy and clean workup, short reaction times (05-40 min),
excellent yield (52-99 %), no toxic waste and environmentally benign method.
